WMPG Presents an Open Mic Night This Friday @ 7pm in USM’s McGoldrick Center in Portland. All are welcome, come check out the new building on Bedford Street. Tommy Stinson is a tried and true, bonafide, living rock and roll legend. He joined the irreverent and iconic Minneapolis band, The Replacements in 1979
He grew up touring America in a van and playing every bar and club from here to Timbuktu before he was even 21 years old. He started his own band, BASH & POP in 1992 and joined Guns N’ Roses in 1998.
As students start to appear back on campus and new students arrive at the University of Southern Maine, we wanted to create a podcast to help new (and existing) students adapt and connect with their new community.
On The Night Train Show next Wednesday, August 16, from 2:30 to 3 pm, Rick and Bill will be conducting a live interview with the two founding members of the local Blues-Rock band, Memphis Lightning. In the WMPG on-air studio will be singer and guitarist Darren “Lightnin” Thiboutot and his father, “Big Red,” who is also the band’s bass player and background singer.

WMPG turns 50!
WMPG Free Since ’73! On August 31, 1973 WMPG was born! Well kinda, there’s more to the story than that but that’s when we officially began broadcasting as a FCC licensed radio station.
