H5580-1 Regency Transistor Radio (Front)

Radio Junk Drawer began April 2001, and since then Mister Pence has brought junk-drawer perspective every Wednesday–smart sound, garage visionaries, and pop with a problem.

Linques to the five freshest (most recent) shows below…

In June 2020, Mister Pence’s junky outlook shifted to the Garage.

In November, it shifted again to the Furnace.

Moreover, the brand has expanded into the open night with occasional additional shows called Night Junk.

. . . compelling queries continue to pour in . . .

01  radio, essentially superior, or just as corrupt as any other medium/technology? [asking for a friend]
02  could this show have attained such heights with a name like the hair in the gate?
03  oh, p! talking geography again!
04  did you think hard about the first song you played on the first show, or was the mindset ahhhhh whatever?

05  how many turntables?
06  should mister just remove to @westyorkshire or @lancashire?
07  do you encourage people to keep supporting sun tiki, apohadion, mayo street arts, blue, and other special live performance venues in portland with vibes and with cash money?
08  how many of the listening people connect wednesdays as the show travels through the air? + haha how many link later at the archivepump?
09  yer fayv-ruht song right now?
10  did you say something weird about nick drake?

11  whatcha reading? or should i say trying to read?

12  did you not mention sanford at all in october and early november?

13  [your concern/pleasure here]

14  where’s pretty picture of mister all pensive in 2004 [photo: marianne weems]?

Jeff Bell art teacher, Windham High School

Listening to Archive Apr. 5th with my AP Studio art class and they’re loving it!
I’ll send you a shot of them at work if I can. Anyways, regarding Tomorrow Never Knows, a quirky phrase taken from Ringo during an interview, John found it hilarious. The replacement is from loops they each went home and experimented with. Paul along with a bunch of random other songs recorded seagulls. That’s what is most prominent.
Cheers!

Jeff Bell, thank you SO much for listening and for writing. Thrilled that your AP Studio art class loved the show along with you! Viva la radio! Perhaps one or more of your students may be interested in listening to–or even joining–the Blunt Youth Radio program on Monday evenings.
All the best to you and your students at WHS!

Mr. Pence;
With great pleasure
I listened to your program on March 13th. Keep up the great work.
I’m thinking you’re the Dave Pence who has (had?) a father of the same name that sold insurance.
If you are, my mom, Ruth Randall
(deceased), used to take care of you and Wesley Littlefield
(still doing well) during the day.
I just thought I’d say hello. I’m not a Facebook, or Twitter user.

Paul, thank you for listening and thank you for taking the time to write. I am that David Pence, indeed, and I remember the time spent in and around your family’s house so long ago very fondly. Bless your late mom. Best, David.

RDJ is ALWAYS good but it was REALLY good yesterday (7/12/17). Sent that ep to a couple people in hopes of getting them to start listening. You’re amazing! 🙂

I was Music Director and a DJ at MPG back around 1987. (“Coffee and Cigarettes.”) Radio Junk Drawer sends me back to the days of spending every last cent buying vinyl and seeing bands. RJD is the freshest show in Maine. Never ever stop, Dave.

Hey Dave, On today’s show you played a great song by Kendra Smith but you didn’t know where it came from. The EP is called Kendra smith presents the guild of temporal adventurers. Just discovering ur show and loving it. Keep it up, brother!

How did I never to reply to your wonderful comment! Thank you for listening, thank you for writing, and thanks for detail about that Kendra release. Yes, every time I flip through stacks in a “vintage” shop, it’s THAT release and a handful of others that are like gold in the riverbed. I love the journey to try to find them. Best, David

hey David, I’ve been listening to Radio Junk Drawer for some years now when I can catch it. Ive always liked your show because of the obscure 60’s 70’s stuff you play . Really cool stuff. I;m a few years older than you (62) so I’m a huge Beatles guy. I play guitar (unrelated) a ton of Beatle material. Anyway, I streamed my first Radio Junk Drawer today and was super pleased about George’s Album. I never thought I would be able to connect with someone about the impact that had on me. I was thinking the whole time that you should play “be here now’ and sho nuff, you played it last. I cannot articulate my feeling for this album except it was extremely memorable for me..
PS. I have the guitar tablature book as well as the album of course. Great job man, hope to meet you some day maybe as we have very similar interest….
peace,
Biff

First-time streamer in 2019 from Appalachian Ohio. Great show. So impressed. Would love to see Leo Kottke and Meat Puppets on the same bill!

Man, your hitting my sweet spot with these Byrds songs. I was at the Cambridge Rolling Thunder review show (second row center) and remember McGuinn being all over the stage.
