What's New at WMPG?
Our monthly news program Amjambo Time didn’t air in full due to a computer problem. Big apologies – so we present the entire 30 minute program here. We will also rebroadcast the entire program next Friday May 20th at 7pm. Many thanks to reporter Jean Damascene and everyone at the newspaper Amjambo Africa and our sponsor Ocean View at Falmouth
WMPG is partnering with Maine Access Immigrant Network to bring some important information about services available to immigrants for Covid testing and free Covid vaccinations. We are running audio messages on-air in six different languages. You can also hear the messages here.
It’s commencement time here at USM. While one student was selected to speak at Saturdays ceremony, many other students submitted their own speeches and we wanted you to hear a few of the finalists. Please meet these incredible students!
In addition to our wide range of talk show programming, WMPG is also host to a large number of podcasts! Between heritage and community-related content, educational and political broadcasts, and more easygoing programming based around the sharing of personal beliefs and stories, there’s something for all our listeners to enjoy in our vast collection of podcast series. Get some perspective on our shows straight from the DJs that host them.
This past Saturday was the 15th annual Record Store Day (RSD), an event celebrated all over the world.
Most Mainers know that Record Store Day began with a conversation and email exchange with Chris Brown from Bull Moose and music industry folks and a desire to celebrate independent record stores like people did within the comic industry. “It is a day for the people who make up the world of the record store—the staff, the customers, and the artists—to come together and celebrate the unique culture of a record store and the special role these independently owned stores play in their communities. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day.”
