This is fantastic. I found out about Left of the Dial from a SiriusXM First Wave facebook group of all things. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, Jay! Glad you’re enjoying the themes featured on Left of the Dial. So many great ideas come from my listeners. What are some other themes you’d like to see featured on my show?

Well your doing great with themes. I’d suggest an early Tom Waits jazzy be-bop theme maybe?

You always do great themes. Like each show is centered about some concept that decides which songs to choose.

So here’s an idea. How about a show that show how music has evolved over the years? Like start whatever year you wish, and then play the evolution up to the present day.

Me, I’d start with early blues music (Chess Records stuff), and then to go to Elvis Presley, The Everley Brothers, The Beatles, and so on. Till today. Whatever the best music today is. I’ve kinda lost track.

Only need to choose one song from each to show the evolution.

Thanks, Nate. I love your idea! Right away I’m thinking of the evolution of synthesizers, glam rock, ambient, prog or Britpop. I often think of playlists in a chronological fashion, but your suggestion gets me thinking about how a certain sound, technology or style evolves. This approach could lend itself to a really intriguing listen.
