Kifah Abdulla

Kifah Abdulla is a poet, artist, performer, teacher, and world citizen. Born and raised in Baghdad, Iraq, Abdulla is involved in many cultural and artistic projects. He is the Arabic calligraphy instructor at Maine College of Art Continuing Studies” MECA “ the Arabic language instructor Southern Maine Community College” SMCC “ and at the Language Exchange, a member at Portland Public Art Committee, founder of the “ International Arabic Language Event at Portland Maine, WMPG Show “ Words and Music “, co-founder of the first Arabic and English website in Maine, co-founder of the “Arabic Conversation Group” in Portland Maine a member at MECA’s Community Partners Task Force, board member at New England Arab American Organization and co-curator of the “Migration Experience Exhibit and Project” of April 2018. Abdulla was a peace activist in Iraq for almost ten years, where his life was at risk. He became a prisoner of war in the conflict between Iraq and Iran in the 1980s and spent over eight years in prison. He was a refugee for 21 years. He published his first book of poetry, “Dead Still Dream” in 2016. He writes poetry, as he says to convey my voice and often performs with the accompaniment of cello or Oud.
