WMPG’s 21st annual Fat Tuesday Cajun Cookin’ Challenge happens February 9th, noon-3pm

On “FAT” Tuesday WMPG will again be hosting our renowned Fat Tuesday party. This will be the 21st year that we celebrate Mardi Gras with our volunteers, listeners, USM and the greater Portland Community. It all happens from noon to 3pm in the USM Woodbury Campus  Center in Portland.

WMPG will be broadcasting New Orleans music from the site of the celebration. There will be plenty of WMPG on-air personalities to spin tunes, and Rob Sylvain might even show up to perform live Acadian music in the amphitheatre.

Food will be served from noon to 3 pm as local restaurants prepare their best Cajun and Creole compete for bragging rights for 2016! WMPG listeners and supporters (including the USM student body and USM staff & faculty) are invited to attend, sample area chefs’ New Orleans style cooking, and vote for their favorite.

There is no admission fee, but a suggested donation of three to five dollars will be appreciated to help WMPG cover the cost of hosting this annual event. Last year’s party drew more than five hundred revelers!

Last year more than 500 people attended the event and the 2015 Cajun Cookin’ Challenge Champs was Bintliff’s American Cafe. Bintliff’s, has been renamed Bayside American Cafe. They served a Gumbo with Chicken and Andouille Sausage with Mini Corn Cakes. Tasty!

We will broadcast live from the event and may have some live authentic music New Orleans style music.
