March 18th 2005 Nashville Based  rising star  Julie Lee  http://www.JulieLee.org   Julie Lee has an incredible voice and many folks agree, bluegrass fiddle & vocal legend Alison Krauss thinks so , she  sings on Julie's debut disc and so does a guy named Vince Gill and a host of other mainstay artists from Nashville who can spot a brilliant talent when they hear one and work to produce the rarest of debut discs one that made all the trade journals like  No Depression, Billboard, Paste, FolkWax, Nashville Scene, Slipcue.com, The Washington Post, Rockzillaworld Magazine all took note of her debut ; "Stillhouse Road"  on Compadre Records She stands out as a voice to be reckoned with and heard  Tune in Friday morning March 18th for Julie Lee live on Us Folk

March 18th 2005 Maine based Kate Wegner with Chuck Donnelly  (violin & guitar)  http://www.KateWegner.com  from up Elsworth, Maine, They  bring their trad-based & laced  tunes for  fiddle, guitar & voice to Portland for a show at the local Acoustic Coffee (same night)  tune in to see why you might just want to be in their audience. This Duo is hard at work on a second release and will likely be seen on the festival circuit this summer, tune in to hear why legions of fans brave elements to hear this duo each week in Bar Harbor .

 

March 25 2005 (moved from 18th March) Maine based Tree By Leaf   http://www.TreeByLeaf.org  Have a new disc  out entitled Of the Black and Blue.

Tentatively all Band members of this exciting trio  joins Us Folk host in the studio for  some pared down live versions of the tracks and stories about making this, their third  recording to start  today's program.

 

March 25 2005 French Canadien Music du Maine w/ Boreal Tordu  http://www.BorealTordu.com

(Check out their Brand New SITE !) This four piece ensemble , guitar,dobro, fiddle, accordion, Feet(!), vocals, bass & percussion, returns to Us Folk for a second visit , and have they come far since last we heard them, from festivals in Canada and numerous concert dates throughout the state. We welcome them back & hope you can tune in to hear them play the music that is part of the heritage of Maine's Franco community, & if you do , you just might decide to go & see them  @ the St Lawrence this same evening.

 

April 1st 2005 (rescheduled) Rebecca Hall w/ Ken Anderson  http://www.RebeccaHall.com (rescheduled) The Amazing vocal talents that have turned many a head in the folk world are also noting  the fine writing talents of Rebecca Hall  & Ken Anderson . David Olney  is including  Rebecca's tune "Oh Lord" on his about to be released new disc.

This will be Rebecca's  third visit to the show and she  says  she & Ken have been working a new batch of tunes & performing all over the East coast.

April 15th 2005 Aztec Two Step  http://www.aztectwostep.com - Live in studio The  folk Duo with staying power!  Aztec Two Step have been on the scene since the early seventies (Yikes), if you have ever turned on a radio you have likely heard one of their many songs , They are still at it their latest release is Days of Horses , with what appears to be an even split of writing credits to each member of the duo.  PittsField Maine Native Rex Fowler met New York City native Neal Shulman at an "open mike" in Boston in 1971 and the rest is music history . Aztec Two Step has a benefit concert April 15th @ the Wells High (School) theater .

April 22nd 2005  Maine based David Bullard Band  http://www.DavidBullard.com   Maine is where David hangs his hat but he performs all over the country and has for years, even on the high seas singing writing, and picking, which he does rather well . He may be familiar (he has been a past guest)  but also hosts a cable television program where performers from Maine are guests for dialogue and performance.

 

April 29th 2005 Maine Based  combo The Mutineers CD RELEASE show (tentative date) These guys are great local performers, a tight three piece doing traditional early country and have  been laying down tracks for a long awaited CD . Really looking forward to this show.

 

May 6th 2005 John Schindler  http://www.jschindler.com/ New Hampshire based John Schindler Has a new release out "Memory Train" John is a seasoned performer and veteran songwriter  with peers who literally sing his praises like Mary Gauthier, Geoff Bartley , and other, mainstay, Boston  singer songwriter legends.

May 6th 2005 Phoner with Ellis Paul  http://wwwEllisPaul.com.  Maine Native and songwriter has a new recording out  this April  and a show in Portland  on the 13th of May we talk about the new release "American Jukebox Fables" .

 

May 13th 2005  Portland's own The Grassholes Live in the studio  (site under constuction) .  If your ear is to the ground on the local music scene you know the Grassholes were one of three bands on the WMPG Bluegrass Extravaganza disc a Live show (YES copies are still available ask station management) recorded @ the St Lawrence, up on Portland's  Munjoy Hill .

 

May 22th 2005 JP Jones Live in studio . JP Jones has got to be one of the most prolific songwriters to play on the show annually he releases a disc and they just get better  and Better. His latest effort is called  "Thugs And Lovers"  holds not a punch as he writes about the heart aches of love, betrayal and just plain calling it like he sees it. JP is a personal favorite and four time guest on Us Folk he has 10 recording out , not including his 1972 Columbia Records release, he's played coffee houses and Arenas alike and shared stages with music luminaries from BB King , Springstein, Bonnie Raitt, even Little Feat .
