• Appalachian Trail--Bound for Maine

• An Iraqi Family in Portland

  Portland is now home to more than a dozen Iraqi families who fled the violence in their country. In Maine, they have found a safer place for their children to attend school while the parents work to make a toehold in the workplace. Among the recent immigrants are Yousef, Muna and their two children.

  Theirs has been an ongoing struggle to build a better life. Interviewed on Feb. 16 in their Portland apartment, they asked that their real names not be used to protect their family members still in Iraq.
